God commands us to humble ourselves, from the most simple to the most trying situations; then and only then will we be able to cast ALL our cares on Him. 1 Peter 5-7. Though we perceive obedience as an option, God can not defend (exalt) us when we choose to exercise disobedience. If we are to be successful and overcome the flesh, we must practice renewing our mind. Obedience carries with it great rewards. Psalm 37:5-7. Equally true is that disobedience carries the penalty of a curse. It is your choice. As Joshua said, "As for me and my household we will serve the Lord." So, who do you say is really in control, God or your spouse, boss, parent, friend, neighbor, enemy or self? Obviously and unanimously, GOD!
